Mentor uses g-force levels to determine harsh or risky driving. G-force is a measure of acceleration. Mentor’s “Harsh Acceleration” thresholds are based on industry best practice and eDriving’s own field testing. These are subject to change in light of experience, industry standards, and in-house research.
Mentor’s current “Harsh Acceleration” threshold is set at 0.41 g or 9 mph/s. A driver increasing speed from 33 mph to 60 mph within 3 seconds means they accelerated 27mph in 3 seconds, which equates to decelerating an average of 9mph/second. This would trigger a “Harsh Acceleration” event in Mentor.
